Prom Tablescape

Welcome to Red Couch Recipes.  I have posted the pictures of the tablesetting of the Prom dinner I put together for my son and his date and another couple.  The theme of the Prom was "City Lights," but I decided to use the elephant plates my son had given me to make a "manly statement ;).

I love the elephant plates, they are fun.  He bought them at Ross for my birthday two years ago.

I set the square elephant plates on my brown reactive ware.

I used the wonderful beaded napkin rings that I won in a giveaway from Kathleen, at Cuisine Kathleen.

If you know me, you know I always include a shot of looking throught the glasses.  These yellow glasses were a gift from my sisters.  They are so bright and cheery.

Our forsythia was still in bloom, and as an afterthought I brought some in to put in the center of the table.

It is just a simple little arrangement that went along with my "screaming yellow" glasses.

Since there were only four at the table I put together an endscape with some luggage, candles, bananas, and pineapple to go along with the elephant theme.  I didn't want a huge centerpiece that might get in the way of conversation....not to worry, my son was there and he is a gabber.

The menu for the evening included three recipes from my blog.  My son was very particular about the menu.  He chose Creamy Fennel Pork, which is a family favorite for the main course.  For dessert we plated Grand Wailea Ice Cream balls with Pots Au Chocolat drizzled with raspberry sauce.  I loved it that these young couples had room to eat most of the dessert!  My son and two daughters all helped with the cleaning of the home, and with the cooking.  It was a fun time.

On another note....
On another note....my sister Jacqueline, at Purple Chocolat Home, may be the only one who has noticed my lack of blogging.  I told her that I may quit because my life has become so busy, and she quickly said "Well, if you quit, then I quit!"  I don't  really believe she will quit because blogging fits her lifestyle to a "T."  She has always been creating and doing wonderful things.  I have enjoyed the fun we have shared together as "Blogging Sisters."  So for now I have decided to stay with blogging.  One of the things I have enjoyed about blogging is visiting your blogs!  Honestly, you fellow bloggers are some of the most creative, kind, and funny people.  I apologize that I have not been visiting as much as I would like to, and sometimes I don't post because I feel that I don't have time to visit all your wonderful blogs, but I will do what I can.

Our Red Couch Family wishes you a wonderful day!

Oh Joni, you have a wonderful blog and I did notice your absence. But I sometimes don't see posts in my reader, and I thought that was the problem. There is one blog I can no longer read as it causes my computer to freeze constantly. Please stick with it, as often as you can, don't pressure yourself. xo

Those last few years of high school are so very busy. I think that you're doing great to post whenever you can. I know that most of us have walked your same path, and I suspect that there is a huge portion of grace floating out here in blog world. Glad that you're going to continue....I always enjoy your little spot in blog world...and Jacqueline's, too. The prom dinner was so special. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

Cute table Joni, love using the pineapple with those plates! Blogging takes a lot of time, between work and the kids activities it can seem overwhelming. Do what you can and more importantly, what you want to do, don't let it turn into another job. Have fun:@)

Jumping to the second part first:

Actually, I DID notice your lack of blogging and have missed you. I also understand completely about not wanting to blog myself when I can't visit others. That's one of the three reasons that I don't blog as much. (The other two being time to actually blog and (mostly) just a dry spell.

I probably shouldn't tell you to do what I don't do, but I am going to tell you anyway that I really, really enjoy this blog and would love you to just blog away and not worry about the visiting unless you have time.

And the prom table was perfect and indeed masculine enough without losing loveliness at the same time. That's a hard trick to accomplish!

What a special evening for your son and his friends! I love that HE chose the menu. Those yellow glasses are really fabulous, and adding the forsythia really made them pop. Joni, you CANNOT stop blogging! I had noticed a slowdown in your posts, but I know this is a busy time of year. We had invited my son's friends for a pre-prom dinner, then two days before, my daughter went into labor two days early! I had to fly to Princeton to meet my new granddaughter, and my husband ended up having the meal catered. No telling what the table looked like!

Please don't apologise, Joni - that's just life and sometimes we have to focus a lot of our attention in one place - and other times we have time for blogging! Certainly, with one getting ready for prom and others still in school, you have a very busy life. I'm happy when I see that you've posted but really get it when you don't!
That was a pretty table and reminded me of many years ago when my mother had a grown-up dinner party at home for my graduation prom.

I love it that they had dinner at home. My daughter's senior prom we had a group of couples (not actually couples, just dance couples) over after post prom for breakfast and to crash on couches and sleeping bags all over the living room. The other parents came over and helped me serve and my husband and I stayed up all night! We could keep an eye on everyone and yet they still had a great time.

As for the blogging...I probably would have noticed more if I was around as much myself. I'm not keeping up like I used to either, but I try to do what I can when I can and the world didn't end! Stick around...we like you here!

I have missed you Joni and am glad all is well, just busy. I don't think I could have blogged with our family at your stage. I love my visits here and support you in putting your family first. Blog if you get a chance because I love seeing the awesome things you do....just adore those yellow goblets too!!!!

I was just going to send you an email offering to be a "ghost poster" to help you make it through the end of the school year. I am so glad you did your table. Those elephant plates always make me smile. I just love them.

I did just order my last 6 months printed into a book - as Once In A Blue Moon has quit both of her blogs because of trouble with blogger and that scared me a little! Have a Happy Mother's Day if I don't talk to you!

I know exactly what you mean. We are moving, building a new house;our daughter and SIL are living here (with their 2 dogs) while THEY are building their new house so it is CRAZY around here!!! I can only do what I can do. I am posting VERY sporatically. I may lose some followers but I can't help it. Life is handing me a BIG load right now and I see you too. We just do the best we can. I love blogging and wish I could do a post every day. We will be here whenever you post. XO, Pinky

I usually only post once a week...I admire the bloggers that can post daily, I just can't. We will all be happy if you post when you have the time.

I missed reading this post! Actually, I've decided to step back a bit myself and enjoy our short, Midwest summer. I'm not quitting either - just not going to post as often.
