First Day of School Ice Cream Table

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday!  Today my table is an ice cream table that my kids enjoyed after their first day of school.  Although hoped for, the first day morning of getting everyone off to school wasn't so smooth.  We stayed up late, again, the night before and things went rough the next morning.  How about you?

A napkin view.

At home I have a 12th, 10th, and 5th grader going back to school as well as my husband, a college professor -- a perennial student.  Our oldest is also in school; he began his second year of medical school in Virginia this August.

A larger view of the table.

Which spoon would you like?  This silver-plated spoons were given to me by my sister Jacqueline, Purple Chocolat Home.  Don't you think ice cream tastes better on silver?

These are our everyday glasses; I love them.  They are from Wal-Mart and cheap enough that if you break one, you don't feel badly.

All the ice cream plates were given to me by my daughter Talley for my birthday last year -- they are fun.  Instead of using the plates, my children scooped off the ice cream on the plates and made cones.

Of course you KNEW I would have ice cream for you.  This is Breyer's Strawberry ice cream;  I love the base ice cream in Breyer's.  I think Breyer's is under a different name in the east.

I hope you enjoyed your ice cream.  My children did.  The table sort of smoothed out a rough first day of school.

Joni, I'm going to check out those glasses from Wal Mart. I love the ice cream dishes! Bet your kids will talk about this treat for many years- "remember when Mom did the ice cream table?"

Coming home from the first day of school to this would almost be as good as the new clothes! This is really, really cute. I agree, ice cream does taste better on silver! I love your Wal Mart glasses too, really cute. Have a great school year.

I am a Wal-Mart stalker and if Wal-Mart has anything good, I will find it. We live in a small town and Wal-Mart and K-Mart are it. Joni

Wishing I could go back to when my kids were in school and do this! What a terrific treat to share along with the stories of what happened on "the first day". And its made even better with themed dishes and a pretty tablescape!

Wow-your kids are spread out! There are no kids going to school here anymore, but I still think of "the first day of school" with a touch of sadness. I still love school supplies and I miss the kid sounds in the neighborhood when school starts. Love the ice cream plates...very cute!

I didn't know Jacqueline is your sister!!!! Wow! That's cool! How did I miss that? Old age is making me forgetful? Anyhooooooo...beautiful presentation! I love the ice cream cone dishes! Those are great! I can just imagine anyone - young or old - would love eating from those! Sounds like you have a VERY busy household, and you laid out a beautiful table in spite of all the first-day-back-to-school hoopla. Hooray YOU!!!

School never starts here till after Labor Day, so I don't know how dil will do.

She has 4, 5th grade down to Nursery. They all have to be driven to school, different times for the 2 younger ones, so 3 different times!

As a retired teacher , I always dreaded the first days of school. Had to get myself back in the routine as well as the family!

Love your ice cream table, what a nice treat to celebrate the start of a new year! I wish them happy school days, and happier weekends!
I always check walmart too! You never know!

Ahhh. Love it. We use to do an ice-cream party when my children were small. I believe your table is a lot cuter tho!

We don't have any students in our family anymore, not even college! Our son-in-law does teach English in high school though. I love the silver spoons, Joni! I bet you and Jacqueline have so much fun together:)

Hi Joni,

I like your way of celebrating. I've got a senior this year as well as a junior, freshman and 8th grader. My two older boys share an apartment together and of course are both out of school. This year seemed to be the smoothest transition back in school. I'm so happy that all the kids like it!
Your ice cream cone plates are too cute! I have the same Walmart glasses. I'll be using them in my tablescape tomorrow.

Hugs,

Nancy

Love this table Joni! I won't show my husband this post, since he is a teacher, and wants nothing to do with getting back into a routine :-) After the first day back, it's like he was never off! Thank you for the birthday wish :-)

Hi Joni - That first day of school can be rough going. Its hectic no matter how much preparation goes into it. Your ice cream table is so pretty. What a treat for the first day back.
