We have eggs! My youngest daughter went to the chicken coop this past week and came back inside and said, "Mom, someone is playing a trick on me!" When I asked her why she replied, "There are a ton of eggs outside in the chicken coop." THERE WERE TWENTY-THREE EGGS! No, not a trick -- her chickens began laying eggs and we didn't realize it.
Zach and Melba
Talley won her chicken, named Zach, in a chicken race this year in Melba, Idaho. She also took home one of her cousin's chickens, we named Melba, and they finally began laying! Those little sneaky hens were laying them in a cat carrier that Talley had placed in the coop! Talley never saw them going in the cat carrier so she never checked! WHAT FUN! Those naughty little hens chose the cat carrier to lay -- not the nesting boxes my husband made! They had almost ran out of laying space!
Just thought I would share this funny story!

LOL that is so cute! And that is a bunch of eggs! Ours did that this summer, and she came strutting out with 9 babies! ;D
Whooo for you! So glad you are getting lots of eggsta eggs...
Those girls will lay their eggs wherever they choose - we found a nest in the field once. Now you'll have to get cracking!
I have always wanted to keep chickens. Can't convince my other half. Love the story about the cat carrier. Go figure.
That is funny Joni! Chickens make great garden soil.

How fun! The eggs are beautiful, can't wait to see what you whip up:@)
How lucky! Fresh eggs are absolutely the best! We have a farm nearby when we are up north for the summer where we buy them every week!

How neat! Perhaps some frittatas on the menu?
Too funny! They had their own egg crate. ;)
Twenty three eggs...how exciting for your daughter! Guess you had better go out there daily to pluck the eggs from the nest so they don't go bad...
They must really like that cat carrier :) That is a lot of eggs!
This is so cute! Fresh eggs for breakfast, that is a a treat! Almost two dozen, that is impressive. xo
How fun! What a surprise too. You guys are just little farmers! That is a ton of eggs. Our neighbors had the same thing happen to them. One of their chickens were laying their eggs down in the window well and they found 12 at once. They were able to eat them as the weather was cool. Enjoy!
Congratulations!!!! Nothing better than fresh eggs.
:)

Yay! It's not just a fun story, it's an edible one. Now you'll have your own eggs for baking. How cool is that?
