Zoulah says soooo glad you zoom-broomed by Red Couch Recipes where Zoulah would like to share an absolute favorite and easy recipe, bewitched up for Halloween. These cookies taste like a chocolate penuche to me, without the hassle of making penuche! Zoulah will let you know her bewitching secrets!
The Red Couch family has been making these cookies for years; it is a Sunday evening favorite,
Recipe for No-Bake Cookies
2 cups white granulated sugar
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup buitter
3 cups quick oatmeal
1/2 cup peanut butter (we ususally use crunchy)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Before you begin, lay out some wax paper. Place sugar, water, and butter in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and then let boil for 2 minutes. Remove pan from heat and add peanut butter, oatmeal, and vanilla. Mix together quickly and using a larger spoon scoop out into cookie-sized circles on the wax paper. After slightly cooled, add the worms -- they will melt a little!
Now for Zoulah's secrets......
1. Many no-bake recipes use milk, do not, not use milk!
2. Do not use regular oatmeal, you must use quick oatmeal. If you use regular oatmeal, the oatmeal will not absorb into the chocolate- butter-water mixture!
3. Make sure your vanilla, oatmeal, and peanut butter are pre-measured so you are able to to add them quickly. Once stirred, make sure you work quickly to spoon out cookie mixture into cookies.
These are favorites with the Red Couch Family! Thanks for zoom-brooming by!

Sounds like a fun recipe! I'm getting a kick out of the the little pool of melted gummy worms:@)
Wow, this is one of hubby's favorite's, and I have always used milk. I know they are tricky sometimes, and I have to be careful not to make them in the heat of the summer when the Mississippi humidity is not nearly as bad, but why not milk? Glad to hear it tho. I will try the water recipe because a lot of times I don't have milk. Thanks, and happy fall.
Oh, lol, I forgot to tell you that I have never used worms :)
I have to make a recipe with worms..maybe this one..wonder if Bulk Barn has them..so cute!
This is a favorite cookie recipe in my husband's family, and he still LOVES them!! The worms are so fun for kids! I hope you're enjoying your new home and adjusting to it all! The leaves are turning so pretty here in Kentucky. :)
Blessings,
Leslie
my nieces would love these, thanks for sharing, anne!
I like the look of the melted gummi worms, too!
I was going to run to the kitchen and make these, but then saw your note about the oats, and I have old fashioned. :(
Such a fun way to add some creepy crawly fun! These cookies are always so delicious. I find them addictive. I can see the little ones pulling the worms out.
Your ideas are always so fun!
I love stuff like this. This is the kind of thing that I liked to make when the girls were growing up and when I was a teacher, too.
These cookies (without the worms:)) have been a family favorite since I was in Brownies! LOVE them! (We use 1/2 cup milk instead of water.)
Zoulah is one talented witch! These sound delicious to me, even with the creepy little worms crawling around! They probably add a nice little sweet touch. Ooo--can you imagine real ones--ooo. Linda
I don't think I've ever had a no-bake cookie. The idea of worms and dirt is hilarious!!!!!!! They really look creepy, especially since the worm is slightly melted! Gives me the willies!!! I'll just bet the kids scarf 'em up like there's no tomorrow, though! Adults, too!
I happen to know a certain little boy who would love these ;)
