Rooster Rendezvous Tablescape

Well, today was ONLY negative three when I drove my daughter to school --- a veritable heat wave--because that is much better than the negative 8 on Tuesday and the negative 12 on Monday!

So today we are crowing here at Red Couch Recipes with these new Rooster dishes!  This is the salad plate.

This is the dinner plate.  I first saw the black version on Debbie's wonderful blog, Mountain Breaths, and had admired them -- I also love her blog :).   This week she provided us a fun glimpse of her 2012 life -- in tablescapes, and she is sporting a new wonderful looking header.  Unless I am colorblind, these are her plates in a  navy blue version, not black. I keep on holding them up to black items and comparing. I found them at a Marshall's on clearance.  When we were first married, we lived about a block away from a Marshall's store.  I hadn't been to a Marshall's in many years.

We have two hens, no rooster, so it is fun to have some chicken dishes.  Our hens won't mind if roosters take the stage today.

Proof of the price of the salad plate!

A view of the stack.  The red hob-nail bowls are from Michael's Arts and Crafts, maybe two years ago.  We use them all the time; they are great for little casseroles and soups.

I added napkins, Country Living, that I found at K-Mart on clearance in the fall. The napkin rings I purchased from the Style Sisters blog, a couple of years ago.

This picture provides a better view of the table setting.

The flatware is from World Market.  It is very affordable and nice looking, but use caution when washing.  I think it should be only hand washed because the metal part on flatware darkened, on some, but not all, of the pieces.

Before I knew it, Rocco, the Red Couch Rooster decided to hop up on the table.  He said, Roosters, roosters, I am in!  He usually resides in the red living room.  I won him in a giveaway from Renee, Singing With Birds,  two years ago.

I like to see my tablescape through a bubbly glass.
\

Just a few more shots.

We actually didn't eat at this table, like the many times that I set the table for my blog :).  I had the table set, and the dinner made, and it was one of "THOSE" nights.  My son was working, and my oldest girl Tati had a high school swim meet that my youngest daughter and I attended.

We did make some delicious creamy chicken noodle soup for dinner.  I hope you don't think I am macabre for serving chicken noodle soup with the Rooster dishes.

It is really a delicious recipe.  I will share it with you later in the week.  Wow, who put sooo much pepper on the soup?

We also had some homemade potato rolls.  I also want to add this recipe to my collection.

On another note, as it has been so cold, the weather has been good for ice skating.  The chair can help you learn how to skate better.

Or you can just use your sister...

NOTE TO BLOGGERS:  If you are having trouble uploading photos onto your blog, Blogger is experiencing trouble when you use Internet Explorer as your browser.  You can add photos, not as easily in HTML instead of compose mode.  I had to do this for this post.

Once again, thanks for stopping by my little Red Couch.  I really do look forward to your visits.   Blogging, without visitors, wouldn't be fun, would it?

I like your decorations..I miss ice skating outside, it is so much fun.

We were in Utah 3-5 of January to drop off our son to college in Provo. The coldest it got was -24 somewhere between Cedar City and Provo and it was cold..Fortunately it was warmer once we dropped our son off at BYU...

I'm originally from Sweden and I thought I was used to cold weather but we don't reach that cold too often in my area of Sweden..

Oh my, it is really cold in your neck of the woods. I am afraid I would be housebound til spring. I never did learn to ice skate, and have balance issues now, so forget that. Love your dishes. Cute red bowls from Michael's, too. Think warm thoughts! xo

Wow, we've been complaining about lows in the high 20s here in central Texas! You folks are HARDY! Love your cheerful table, and what a deal you got on the dishes! I'm also a fan of Debbie's blog.

Oh, roosters and gingham, all on one plate! Be still my heart! I have a set with both roosters and gingham, but they are in colors of red, white and blue.. But I LOVE the black and white combo too! Beautiful! ~tina

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!! Chicken soup with rooster dishes!!! I wonder how ol' Rocco felt about that! :-) You got a really great buy on those salad plates, and they are really a terrific addition to your table. The red looks great with them. I've been scared to death to put any of my flatware from World Market in the dishwasher for the very reason you cited. The patina looks pretty, though. Hooray for you and your potato rolls!!!!! I cannot do breads like that to save my soul. Yours look wonderful! Have a great week!

Joni, you're right. Your rooster dishes are blue and mine are black. I have seen the blue ones, and have never seen the black since I bought them.

I love ice skating! I went skating at Rockefeller Center, but the darn skates were wet/damp inside. Yuck! I rented them, and next time will bring my own.

My son leaves New York on January 29 for Utah. He's going snowboarding, and then a side trip to Jackson Hole. We are used to cold weather, but not that cold!

Now I am wishing for some warm rolls ;o)

OMG! I use my rooster dishes all the time - I just love them - didn't realize they came in different colors. Your table looks great, I love the red and black combination, the stack looks great. Wow- we have had a pretty mild winter thus far in Ohio - I don't think we have gone below 10 degrees so far - we usually get a couple of negative days in a row. Not complaining though!!! The ice skating looks fun, all my boys play hockey - I haven't put my skates on in a couple of years now. Stay warm!!

Well, I guess we shouldn't complain. It has been around 10 or 12 and I went out to grill some chicken and when I came out to turn the meat my hand was slightly wet from washing my hands and it stuck to the handle on the lid of the grill. Ouch! Then it stuck to the metal spatula. I always grill all winter and have never had that happen!

Way to cold to be skating! Glad the kids don't feel it like we do!
Your table is cute and the plates are something to crow about!

What cute rooster dishes, Joni, and what a deal! I love the pop of the red bowl on top. We had chicken noodle soup for dinner tonight, too. Mr.Rooster presiding at the table is so cute.

Wow Joni, I'll stop complaining about our 4" of snow and 35 degree temps! That is really cold weather you are having! Be careful! I have those dishes in red and love them, especially for breakfast or quiche. Debbie does have a fantastic blog and I always enjoy it. Keep your kids warm! Linda

I really am drawn to the chicken and rooster motif. I think it makes me feel like I've taken a relaxing trip to the country. This is a lovely table setting, and, wow, what great bargains you got at Marshall's! Why is it that the ugly stuff is what's on clearance when I visit? ;-)

Joni, I can't imagine living in that frigid weather. I'd never want to leave my warm cozy house. ;-)
I have a set of these dishes in red, and when I saw the black and white version on Debbie's blog, I too wanted to find these. Bingo.......finally found the salad plates at TJ this fall and since I had a gift card, they jumped right into my cart. Need to pull them out and do a tablescape. Thanks for sharing yours. Love the pop of red.

Loved your table scape. I have been having the same issues with explorer. I finally started using Chrome and it's gone much better. Switching to HTML only worked once for me.

Love your rooster tablescape, Joni! I also switched to Google Chrome for doing blog posts. It works great, and it is really alot faster as well. Have a good week!

I love the red and black. I had to laugh at the chicken soup/rooster comment. At least if you didn't use the table, that big rooster wasn't staring at you while you were eating.

I still can't post pictures my "normal" way with IE. I have been going through Google Chrome and it works fine. I don't adapt well to change though and I keep forgetting and getting things typed and then have to start over in Chrome. I hope they fix this and this isn't the new normal.

I love the black, red and white together...it looks sharp! I really love the gingham trim on the plate too!
Below zero...YIKES! At least it provides ice skating fun:) It was getting down to 26 degrees here at night a few days ago, which is very cold for us, but today it was in the 70's:)

I am crazy about that table. I actually have the red version of those same plates and use them regularly in my kitchen. I love the black so now want to keep an eye out for them.

And brrr to your temperatures. We got to 32 one morning last week, and you would think we were stuck in the North Pole the way we all acted.

I have the red version of your plates, and lavender, minus the roosters. Got mine in TJMaxx a few years ago, and I love them. I only have 2 place settings of the lav., they are hard to find even on replacements which is way overpriced!
Love your table, and the soup looks so good! It is snowing here tonight. :(
