Dish Lovers Should Never Move Cross Country

Hello and welcome to Red Couch Recipes.

Some of my followers may have noticed that I have been absent from the blogging world.  I have been absent because we have been in the process of making job decisions, preparing our home to sell, and putting our home up for sale.   We live in a small rural area in Southeastern Utah, and we are moving to Northern Virginia.  That will be quite a change for our family!  Wanting a better, more stable employment situation, my husband applied for jobs this year.  He received five job interviews, went to four of them, and received three job offers.  We picked the job that seemed to be the best and decided to move.
No, I have not given up on blogging but with the packing, painting, and cleaning, I just haven't had the time.  We also put in new solid surface (Tyvarian) countertops in our kitchen, and remodeled a bathroom.  I will show you the before and after pictures in a future post.  The housing market is very slow in our area, we pray to be able to leave for Virginia in August as a family.

Many of our things are packed up and in storage, but I still have a lot of dishes to pack.  Like my title said, dish lovers should never move cross country.
I hope you have been having a great summer.

Good Luck with the move, Joni, and congrats on the new job for your husband! It's good to see a post from you(you have been missed)! I'd love to take some of those dishes off your hands (watermelon/ice cream) to help make your move easier:)

Good luck with the move Joni - every time I do it, I swear it will be the last. I lived in northern Virginia for several year (Springfield). Lots of interesting things to do in the area. Good luck!

Oh Joni, I feel your pain! I have moved from Oklahoma to Colorado and back and had to move my entire dish inventory both times. In fact, we've moved about 8 times in 10 years and it is mentally and physically draining. If I were near you, I'd come and help you pack (I am a pro!).
I hope your move and all goes smooth and you are able to settle in quickly and comfortably to your new place.

Will be looking forward to more of your yummy recipes when you are able to post.

Best wishes,

Nancy

Congratulations on the move...be prepared for a cultural shock! I don't envy you having to pack lots of dishes...and ready this house to move, then unpack, find a place for everything.

Congrats to your hubby on the new job! We are in the same situation: we are moving; selling this house and building a new one! We started in March. Got a dumpster first, filled it (we accumulated alot of STUFF in 28 years here), then we got a POD and filled it and they took that to storage. Then we had a "stager" come in and we painted 8 rooms and PACKED about another PODS worth and have it at a cousins basement. Moving is not for sissies, is my mantra these days:):) Oh, plus, we had our daughter, SIL and their 2 dogs here from Feb. til last weekend!!!! BEST of luck with the move. I would say I would help you pack but I am exhausted myself! Welcome back!!!!! XO, Pinky

God bless your move, and may your house sell fast!
I am always happy to see a sold sign up! What a relief it is for the homeowner.

Best of luck to you and your family! How exciting. My family and I have moved numerous times, and things always worked out well. As a matter of fact we are waiting to move across the country in the next few months also. When my son was small we always called it an "adventure".!

Best of luck with this move, Joni. I love Virginia and I just know your family will have all sorts of wonderful adventures there. As for a Dish Lover moving - I have done it too many times with my many dinner services, odd pieces and collections. It's a terrible chore, but then it's such fun to unpack and find new ways to display everything in the new house.

I HAD missed you, Joni! Thanks for explaining what has kept you from blogging. And good luck packing all those dishes! It sounds like an exciting adventure for your family.

THERE you are Joni!! Wishing you the best on your move and new home in Virginia. Moving is a challenge anyway BUT when you move it is way beyond that, lol. When I moved (across town) a couple years ago I did learn that apple boxes are perfect dish boxes and our local newspaper gives away the newprint roll ends which makes perfect packing paper.

Looking forward to more posts as you can :)

Blessings!
Gail

I have missed being your blogging buddy and it has made it harder for me to blog too! So I expect you to return full force.

The Tyvarian countertops and bath are beautiful and I am sure you will sell your house! Good luck packing up all your dishes - I saw something on Pinterest about packing up with foam plates between! Can't wait to visit Virginia!

I'm so glad to see an update from you! It's extra special that it's a good update, too. How wonderful for your husband to be so sought after that he got THREE offers. What a praise to God for that one.

You happen to be moving to a part of the country which is now home to a huge part of my heart. I hope the move goes well and that a wonderful new family adventure is just around the (James) river bend.

Joni, I feel your pain, though I haven't had to pack up the dishes for a move. I do think about it though because we are considering moving to a different house. Good news that your husband has a job, and Virginia is a lovely state. Good luck on the sale of your home. ~ Sarah
