Lord, to Whom Shall We Go?

"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.  Then Jesus said unto the twelve will ye also go away?  Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go?  Thou hast the words of eternal life?  And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God."

John:  6:66-69 (King James Version of the Holy Bible)

This scripture is taken from the book of John where Jesus has just given the "Bread of Life" sermon.   Those who left Him, cared more about the physical bread he provided to satiate their hunger, than the spiritual help he offered them -- that he was the Christ.  As I  face problems in life, and there are always problems, I too testify as Peter said, "Lord to whom shall I go but to Thee."

May you enjoy a wonderful Sabbath.

'Twas a Sheep Not a Lamb that Strayed

’Twas a sheep not a lamb
That strayed away in the parable Jesus told,
A grown-up sheep that strayed away
From the ninety and nine in the fold.
And why for the sheep should we seek
And earnestly hope and pray?
Because there is danger when sheep go wrong:
They lead the lambs astray.
Lambs will follow the sheep, you know,
Wherever the sheep may stray.
When sheep go wrong,
It won’t take long till the lambs are as wrong as they.
And so with the sheep we earnestly plead
For the sake of the lambs today,
For when the sheep are lost
What a terrible cost
The lambs will have to pay.

The Echo by C.C. Miller

I heard this poem for the first time in at our Church's General Conference this April.  It really touched me and want to pass it along to you; it points out the awesome responsibility of parenting.

A few weeks ago our family went to Joe's Valley, a favorite place to do a bit of mild cliff jumping.  On the way there, and then again on departing we found some sheep and some lambs who had wandered away from the fold; I thought of the poem, "The Echo" when I saw them wandering.

A sheep farmer had been moving his sheep from one field to another; they had got lost and were on the road.  As we approached them to take a picture, they would speed up as soon as we got close.  This sheep had led its lambs astray.

The water level is very high at Joe's Valley this year; it will lower throughout the summer as it is drained for irrigation purposes.

Some pictures of my lambs jumping in.  The water was so cold when I first jumped in that I panicked a bit!

These are actually very low and fun to jump off.  No, I am not a sheep leading my lambs astray.

I hope you have a great Sunday.

Scripture Power: Revelation 20: 4 -- Balm for the Loss of a Son -- Kevin 1993-2011

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain:  for the former things are passed away."
Revelation 20:4

Yesterday my sister Jean and her family had to bid farewell to their son Kevin who came into their lives over 17 years ago.  While Jean was expecting Kevin, she was told that he would never make it to birth.  But, live he did for over 17 years!  He survived many illnesses and incidences through those years but for the past four years he enjoyed relatively good health.  This time, he was not strong enough to fight off the pneumonia.  His body was wracked with cerebral palsy-- he was never able to walk or talk.  Though not strong in body, he was strong in spirit.  He loved his family and had a smile as wide as Texas and loved to give "kisses."  People from all walks of life felt Christ-like love radiating from him.  Kevin was a huge blessing to their family.

They derive comfort that because the Savior died for us, we shall all live again.  They will see and live with Kevin again -- they are an Eternal Family!

May peace and comfort be with their family as they grieve and mourn the loss of their son Kevin.

Scripture Power -- Hebrews 13:5

Hi, everyone and Welcome to Red Couch Recipes!

My family and I have been reading the New Testament together.  Recently, as we were reading Hebrews, we came across this scripture:

"Let your conversation be without covetousness;
and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said,
I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

Hebrews 13:5, King James Version

I knew when I read Hebrews 13:5 that this scripture was for me! I had read this scripture before but I had never really taken note of it.  I was really anxious about something in our lives, but when I read this scripture I felt comforted that I should be "content" about the situation (be content with such things as ye have).  I loved that the scripture said "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."  The situation has not improved, but I have found peace and contentment because of this scripture.  Indeed, scriptures can have great power in our lives.

These pictures were taken in my backyard when we used to live in Lindon, Utah.
